Vaibhav Sooryavanshi bats with the maturity of a seasoned international star, but every now and then, he reminds everyone that he is still just 15 years old. After a record-breaking IPL 2026 campaign with Rajasthan Royals, the teenager showed his age when the emotions got the better of him.

After Gujarat Titans knocked Rajasthan Royals out in Qualifier 2, a devastated Sooryavanshi was seen sitting in the dugout, fighting back tears and wiping his eyes with a towel. The emotional scenes quickly went viral on social media.

Despite the loss, Sooryavanshi played a magnificent knock of 96 off just 47 balls on a tricky Mullanpur pitch. However, Shubman Gill’s brilliant century helped Gujarat Titans secure victory and advance to the final.

In what turned out to be one of the greatest individual batting seasons in IPL history, the 15-year-old finished with 776 runs at an average of 48.5 and a staggering strike rate of 237.30. He smashed one century and five half-centuries in 16 innings.

Sooryavanshi broke several records during the season, including:


  • Highest individual run tally, 776, for an uncapped batter in a season in IPL history

  • 776 is the fourth highest aggregate in IPL by a batter ever, no one in top 50 has a strike rate of even 200

  • Fastest batter to 1,000 IPL runs by balls faced (440 deliveries)

  • Second-fastest batter to 1,000 IPL runs by innings (23 innings)

  • Hit 72 sixes during the season are the most by any batter in a single IPL campaign

  • First batter in T20 history to score 500 powerplay runs in a single tournament

  • 46 sixes in powerplay, higher than what five other teams have hit in 2026

  • Crossed fifty inside the Powerplay four times, joint most in a season

  • One of the highest run-scoring seasons by a teenager in franchise cricket history

  • Most fifties, 4, in 16 balls or fewer in 2026 - two more than any batter has managed in IPL history
