Rohit Sharma finally responds to growing speculation over his India future: 'Let the noise be there'

India ODI opener Rohit Sharma broke his silence on speculations around his future with the team after rumours claimed that the England tour would be his last national outing.

After two lacklustre starts in the first two matches, Rohit delivered a remarkable knock on Sunday at Lord's Cricket Ground. The veteran cricketer made history after scoring 138 off 110 balls, becoming the first Indian cricketer to score a hundred in ODI cricket at the iconic cricket venue.

The Hitman proved that he still has a lot to deliver in the 50-over format and intends to do his job the way he knows best.

'If there’s no noise, there’s no fun'

In a video shared by the BCCI, Rohit emphasised that he solely focused on performing with the bat and contributing to the team's success. He also acknowledged that external criticism and the 'noise' have been there since his debut and would continue, but he chose not to affect him.

“Look, my job is with the bat. Come and play, represent my country, represent the team. That’s what I’ve been told since I made my debut, so that’s what I am going to do.

“The noise, since I made my debut, has been there. And [will stay] until I am going to stay here. So, it doesn’t really matter too much. What matters is what I do on the field. Try to contribute to the team's success. That’s all where my focus is right now. Let the noise be there. If there’s no noise, there’s no fun. My job is inside; their job is outside. That’s how I look at it,” Rohit said.

Rohit unhappy despite scoring a hundred

Despite putting up a clinical knock, Rohit was unhappy with Team India's outcome in the third ODI.

"A little disappointed with the result because I thought we were playing really good cricket. You know, how we started in Birmingham, we played some really good cricket. We fell a little short at Cardiff with the bat; actually, it was not enough to score on the board.

"And then here, again, there was a massive total to chase. We tried everything we could with the bat, but again, we fell 20-25 runs short with the bat. Again, when it comes to bowling, you've got to understand these guys haven't played a lot of ODI cricket. You've got to give them some time. But yeah, hopefully we can learn from this game, take it into our stride, make sure when we come across a situation like that, we try and better ourselves," Rohit said after the match.

Considering that the BCCI confirmed that the Lord's ODI would not be his last, he could be in action against the West Indies at home, starting September 27.
