RCB match CSK and MI's legacy with back-to-back IPL trophies at Ahmedabad: All records made

Royal Challengers Bengaluru completed one of the greatest turnarounds in IPL history by successfully defending their title and winning the IPL 2026 trophy in Ahmedabad. After ending an 18-year wait for their maiden title in 2025, RCB have now gone one step further by becoming only the third franchise in IPL history to win back-to-back championships.

Before RCB's triumph, only Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings had managed to retain the IPL trophy. Mumbai Indians achieved the feat in 2019 and 2020 under Rohit Sharma, while Chennai Super Kings won consecutive titles in 2010 and 2011 under MS Dhoni. Rajat Patidar's side has now joined that elite list.

RCB's title defence was built on complete domination throughout the season. They finished at the top of the league table with 18 points and the best net run rate before beating Gujarat Titans twice in the playoffs, including in the final.

The summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium turned out to be surprisingly one-sided. Gujarat Titans were restricted to 155/8 after losing Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan inside the powerplay. Washington Sundar fought hard with a half-century, but RCB's bowling attack, led by Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam, ensured GT never gained momentum.

In reply, RCB made the chase look easy. Venkatesh Iyer provided a blazing start, taking the pressure off Virat Kohli, who anchored the innings with another important knock in an IPL final. Although in-form captain Patidar got out early, the target of 156 never looked enough against one of the strongest batting line-ups, which also includes Tim David.

Kohli finished it off in style as RCB beat GT by five wickets to become IPL champions once again. And who better than Kohli himself to seal the victory for Bengaluru.
