KKR vs GT scenarios: What Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders need to do to reach IPL 2026 playoffs
Kolkata Knight Riders host Gujarat Titans as IPL 2026 league stage enters its final phase where every result will have an oversized impact on which team finishes where in the points table.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face an in-form Gujarat Titans (GT) in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash on Saturday night, with a lot riding for both the teams with regards to their playoff hopes.
KKR head into the match on the back of a crushing defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In contrast, GT are riding high on a five-match winning streak and currently look like the most dominant team in the competition.
As KKR host GT, here’s what both sides need to do to keep their playoff hopes alive.
KKR vs GT IPL 2026 Playoffs Scenarios
GT have been in sensational form, consistently beating top-half teams in their last four matches. A sixth straight victory against KKR would take Shubman Gill’s side to 18 points from 13 matches and make them the first team to officially qualify for the playoffs. A win would also strengthen their top-two hopes.
Even a loss would not end their campaign, as they remain well-placed to qualify even if they drop both remaining league games. However, GT will be targeting a top-two finish to secure a strong playoff position and thus would not want to drop any points.
For KKR, the situation is far more precarious. With just nine points from 11 matches, Ajinkya Rahane’s team is in a do-or-die position. A defeat against GT would leave them with a maximum of 13 points even if they win their last two games. While that would keep them mathematically alive, they would need several other results to go in their favour to sneak into the top four.
For KKR to stay in the playoff race with even a small realistic chance, they must beat GT on Saturday and then secure victories in their remaining matches against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. They play all their remaining games at home and that perhaps could work in favour of them.
