2027 ODI World Cup dates revealed: ICC's showpiece event to take place from 4 October to 21 November

The dates for the next edition of the ODI World Cup, which returns to South Africa after 24 years, were finalised at the recent ICC meeting that took place in Ahmedabad.

The ICC World Cup will be played in the months of October and November for the second consecutive time with the dates for the 2027 edition being revealed on Thursday. According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, the next year's ODI World Cup – which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia – will be held from 4 October to 21 November.

The report adds that the dates were finalised during the recent ICC board meeting that took place in Ahmedabad on the sidelines of the Indian Premier League final. The full schedule is expected to be announced in July following ICC's Annual General Meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland.

South Africa had previously co-hosted the 2003 edition of ICC's showpiece event along with Zimbabwe and Kenya. The Proteas had shockingly crashed out in the first round while Zimbabwe and Kenya advanced to the Super Sixes, with the latter reaching the semi-finals before getting knocked out by India.

South Africa to host bulk of matches, Zimbabwe to get new venue

As for next year's event, the eight venues across South Africa are scheduled to host a bulk of the matches – 41 out of 54. Zimbabwe will be assigned between eight to 10 games while Namibia will be getting three.

Zimbabwe, meanwhile, will be hosting games at three venues, with Victoria Falls set to host matches along with the Harare Sports Club in Harare and the Queen's Sports Club in Bulawayo. The Fale Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls is expected to be completed later this year and inaugurated next May.

The 2027 ICC World Cup also marks the return of cricket's most prestigious event to a 14-team tournament after being a 10-team affair for the last two editions. Teams will be divided into two groups of seven with the top-three from each group advancing to the Super Six stage.

South Africa and Zimbabwe have qualified automatically as host nations but Namibia will have to make their way through the qualification process.
