Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was upset after getting sold at IPL 2025 auction but not because of price: 'Honestly, I thought...'

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was not quite satisfied when he was sold at the Indian Premier League 2025 auction. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) shelled out Rs 1.1 crore to sign the then 13-year-old ahead of the 2025 season.

Sooryavanshi remains the youngest player ever to get sold in IPL when the Royals signed him in November 2024 ahead of the 2025 edition. However, despite getting an IPL team at just 13 years of age, the prodigy was not happy as he wanted more, not in terms of money but in terms of teams that wanted him.

Reason behind Sooryavanshi's disappointment

RR and the Delhi Capitals engaged in a short bidding war to sign Sooryavanshi at the 2025 auction, which took place in Jeddah. The Capitals pulled out at Rs 1.1 crore, helping the Royals sign the teenager who had already made his Ranji Trophy debut by then.

However, Sooryavanshi has now revealed that he was not happy with the auction as only two teams bid for him. He wanted more sides to take interest in signing him.

"Honestly, when I was picked, I thought, 'Why did only two teams bid for me? I play well, I performed well in the trials, other teams should've also bid," Sooryavanshi revealed in a recent video shared by the Royals.

Sooryavanshi made his IPL debut at just 14 in the 2025 edition, making him the youngest ever to play in the league. In his very first season, he smashed the fastest century by an Indian in the history of the league in just 35 balls. The teenager's thoughts about the auction have now changed and he says he is grateful to God that he went to the Royals.

"But now that I've been with the team for one-and-a-half years, I'm telling you honestly, I've thanked God at least a thousand times for bringing me to a team like Rajasthan Royals," Sooryavanshi said.

"The coaches, support staff, players, management team, media team, physios trainers... they all feel like a family here. It feels like you're at home, you're so comfortable that you can share anything with anyone, you can speak how you feel with anyone.

"I can't explain how happy I am after coming to this franchise. All the seniors guide me. They tell me what is good, what I can do and what I should not do. I get to learn a lot," Sooryavanshi added.

After an impressive debut season, Sooryavanshi, now 15, came back even more prepared in his second season, smashing 776 runs at a scarcely believable strike-rate of 237. He broke the long-standing record of Chris Gayle of most sixes in an IPL season with 72 maximums to his name. The teenager won the Orange Cap, MVP and several other awards for his sensational season.
