Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reacts after smashing records in breathtaking 29-ball 94: 'No pressure'

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said the pressure of not converting the starts earlier in the tri-series did not affect him as he slammed his way to a breathtaking 29-ball 94 in the final of the competition against Sri Lanka A to help India A lift the title.

Sooryavanshi played an astonishing knock on Sunday where he broke the List A record for the fastest half-century. The 15-year-old raced to his fifty in only 11 balls, which is now the record for fastest fifty in all of professional 50-over cricket.

Sooryavanshi was under 'no pressure'

Coming into the tri-series on the back of arguably the greatest IPL batting campaign ever, Sooryavanshi was expected to light up the tri-series with his bat as well. However, he had not been able to convert his starts in the four matches prior to the final.

To add to his woes, he had engaged in an ugly on-field altercation with a Sri Lanka A player leading to heavy criticism.

None of that affected Sooryavanshi when he walked out to bat in the final against Sri Lanka A, the same opposition against whom India A had lost in super over a few days ago. The 15-year-old sent the ball to the boundary 10 times in the first 11 balls he faced to bring up his half-century.

By the time he got out in the ninth over, Sooryavanshi had made 94 off 29 and India A had galloped to 132. Speaking after the match, the youngster said he was under no pressure while batting.

“I hadn't thought of anything. Just wanted to execute what I planned in the first ten and take it forward from there,” Sooryavanshi said after being named player of the match. “No pressure. I wasn't executing what I wanted. But after consulting with the coaches, I got it right. Learnt a lot this series."

Sooryavanshi also revealed that he has played a lot of 50-over cricket but people do not know about it.

“I've played a lot of 50-over cricket. Not sure people know about it,” he said. "The challenge was to adapt to different conditions, it was nice to take it on.”

Thanks to Sooryavanshi's blitz and a composed half-century from captain Tilak Varma, India A posted a massive total of 377-9 in 50 overs. Yash Thakur and Vipraj Nigam then picked up three wickets each to stop Sri Lanka A at 311 and help India A win the title.
