Rajasthan Royals produced fireworks in a rain-shortened IPL 2026 match in Guwahati, where they beat Mumbai Indians by 27 runs on Tuesday. The win was led by Yashasvi Jaiswal and teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made Mumbai’s top bowlers look ordinary with their fearless batting.

RR scored 150/3 in just 11 overs after rain forced the match to be shortened. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 77 off 32 balls, while Sooryavanshi played a cameo of 39 from only 14 balls. The opening pair put on 80 runs together in a stunning powerplay that saw bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult being hit for fun.

The most eye-catching moment came when Sooryavanshi outsmarted Bumrah. On the very first ball he faced from the world No 1 bowler in his career, the 15-year-old smashed a six. He then cleverly read Bumrah’s slower bouncer and sent it flying over deep square leg for another six.

Kumble praises Sooryavanshi for setting up Bumrah

Former India captain Anil Kumble praised the youngster for setting up Bumrah in the second over, saying, "It’s not Bumrah that he’s looking at. He’s looking at the ball. That’s what he says. And then he delivered. Not just that, but he also made Bumrah bowl a slower bouncer, slow shorter ball that he tried. Again, into the stands. What a shot. It’s not easy, being the number one bowler in the world, and then getting hit by a 15-year-old."

"Against world's best bowler, first ball, hitting him for a six. And then setting him up. I mean, setting the bowler up, not the other way around. We have seen Bumrah set up batsmen so many times. But here he sets up Bumrah to bowl that slower ball in in the 3rd ball there and then hits him for another six. So, it's brilliant batting by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and just the way he sort of hits the ball, and the consistency that he has shown, and the not necessarily consistency in batting, but the strike rate. I mean, it just remains 300 close to 300 in every game and scores more than 30 runs in every game, which is outstanding," Kumble said on JioHotstar.

How Sooryavanshi tricked Bumrah?

On the very first ball he faced from Bumrah, Sooryavanshi smashed a six. This immediately put pressure on the bowler. The MI pacer now had to adjust because of the aggressive start. The RR youngster knew Bumrah tries to surprise batters by using slower bouncers after getting hit. He let Bumrah bowl the slower ball and was ready for another big shot.

Thanks to Sooryavanshi's fiery knock and Jaiswal's unbeaten 77, RR posted a huge total on the board. MI never looked in control of the chase as they kept losing wickets in regular intervals thanks to timely strikes from Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, Ravi Bishnoi, and Sandeep Sharma. Eventually, the RR bowlers restricted the visitors to 123/9 in 11 overs, winning by 27 runs and going on top of the table.
