The Indian cricket team may undergo a significant coaching overhaul as multiple members of the coaching staff are expected to leave following the recent humiliation in T20 international cricket against Ireland and England.

Team India, under Shreyas Iyer's leadership, is coming off a historic 2-0 series defeat to Ireland. The Men in Blue went on to lose the England T20 series after the hosts' commanding nine-wicket win in the fourth match, taking a 3-0 lead in the series.

Team India's current coaching team is led by head coach Gautam Gambhir, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, bowling coach Morne Morkel, Sitanshu Kotak and Sairaj Bahutule.

Team India set to witness coaching overhaul

According to a report by the Times of India, a 'prominent' member of the coaching staff would part ways with the team, while another could also be out of the coaching unit. It remains uncertain whether the departure stems from dissatisfaction with the role or a desire to pursue a new coaching opportunity.

The report noted that at least one departing member of the coaching staff is expected to switch roles and join an IPL franchise ahead of the 2027 season. Both parties have also been in discussion about the same.

"This possible move is not due to the team’s poor outings in Ireland and England, but rather something that has been brewing over the past few months.

"It is learnt that cracks have deepened in the dressing room since the two-Test defeat against South Africa at home, and it is not the happiest place to be at the moment. The disagreements between the selectors and the coaching staff have further complicated matters," the report further stated.

BCCI to conduct review after nightmare series defeats

Team India’s recent lapses against Ireland and England have raised serious concerns, prompting the BCCI to confirm a review of the team’s performances with captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir, aimed at identifying errors and restoring their stature as heavyweights in T20 cricket.

We are deeply concerned about the Indian team’s performance, and once this series is over, we will definitely have a review with the captain and coach to understand what is going wrong and will rectify the problems soon so we can regain our stature,Saikia said to India Today.
