Suryakumar Yadav’s disappointing run in IPL 2026 continued on Sunday as the Mumbai Indians batter was dismissed for a first-ball duck against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur.

Leading Mumbai Indians in the absence of injured captain Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar returned to the squad only a day before the match after taking a short break for the birth of his second child. However, his return did not bring any change in fortunes.

The Indian T20I captain was dismissed by experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the very first ball he faced. Bhuvneshwar bowled a fuller delivery outside off stump with enough seam movement to trouble him. SKY attempted an attacking drive, but got a thick outside edge which flew straight to Virat Kohli at first slip.

This was the second time in IPL 2026 that Suryakumar was dismissed for a golden duck. Earlier this season, he had also fallen for a first-ball duck against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium.

Fans troll Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar’s poor form has now also raised questions about his future as India’s T20I captain. Recent reports suggested that Indian selectors could look at other options for leadership in the coming years.

Meanwhile, fans on social media reacted strongly after another failure from the senior batter. One fan mocked his form by writing, “Suryakumar Yadav is now Shunyakumar Yadav,” with Shunya meaning zero in Hindi.

The latest failure further hurt Suryakumar’s numbers this season. The star batter has managed only 195 runs in 11 innings so far at an average of just 17.73. It is currently his worst IPL average since 2017, when he averaged 17.50 during a difficult season.
