Michael Vaughan takes dig at Kohli, Rohit and Jadeja: 'They should have won more'

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 World Cup. Still, former England captain Michael Vaughan feels that the Indian stars should have won "one or two more" world trophies given their stature in the game. India, who were quickly starting to earn the choker tag, ended their 11-year wait for an ICC title with the 2024 T20 World Cup win last month under Rohit's captaincy.

In the final against South Africa at Barbados, Player of the Match Kohli scored 76 as the Men in Blue won by seven runs.

After India's world title triumph, the first since winning the 2011 ODI World Cup, Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja announced their retirement from T20Is.

Vaughan said the T20 World Cup win was the perfect send-off for Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja from T20Is, but they know they should have won more World Cups.

"They'll all agree that it is a perfect way to go, but they should have won more white ball trophies amongst them. He was part of the first World Cup win in 2007. To think that it has taken him seventeen years to get another one in his hand, I think he will be the first one to admit that they should have won one or two more," Vaughan said on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.

"What a way to go out with a win in Barbados and a trophy in your hand. Now they can sit back and play Test cricket, a bit of one-day cricket, and in the IPL like MS Dhoni, play on forever. In Indian cricket, they will be replaced as there's plenty of talent in that team," Vaughan added.

Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja have only retired from T20Is and should be soon back in action in Tests and ODIs. BCCI general secretary Jay Shah recently confirmed that Rohit will continue to captain India in Tests and ODIs.
