KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan hails IPL champions: 'These blessed candles of the night'

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan had words of praise for his franchise after the Shreyas Iyer-led outfit lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 title, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final. “To my boys…. my team…. my champs….”these blessed candles of the night” …. My Stars…of KKR,” SRK, as he is lovingly called by his fans, posted on social media handle ‘X’.

“I cannot do a lot of things and you cannot do them all either…but together we manage most of them. That’s what  @KKRiders  stood for. Simply being together. Beyond the ability and guidance of @GautamGambhir….the earnestness of Chandu, the love of  @abhisheknayar1& leadership of @ShreyasIyer15... the dedication of @rtendo27, Bharat Arun @1crowey & @Numb3z... this team is built on no hierarchy just pure respect for collaboration. Having been asked to field first, the KKR bowlers led by Andre Russell (3/19) and Mitchell Starc (2/14) helped restrict SRH to just 113, which was also the lowest team score in an IPL final. Both Travis Head (0) and Abhishek Sharma (2) failed to make an impact, and skipper Pat Cummins (24) and Aiden Markram (20) were their top-scorers.

In KKR's reply, despite losing Sunil Narine early to Pat Cummins, Venkatesh Iyer (52*) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39) led the team's fightback to eventually help them cross the finish line with eight wickets to spare. The duo put on 91 runs for the second wicket. This is KKR's third IPL title, having previously won it in 2012 and 2014.
