Mumbai Indians are the joint-most successful team in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, having won the tournament a total of five times, the same as their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK). All five of those titles came under Rohit Sharma's leadership starting in 2013, when the 'Hitman' took over the reins of the team from Ricky Ponting. They had also finished runners-up once, in 2010 against CSK back when batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was the captain, and have bowed out in the playoffs stage a total of four times.

This year, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to begin a new era in the franchise by taking over the reins of the team from Rohit Sharma following his blockbuster trade from Gujarat Titans, where he had captained for two years.

How did they fare in the previous season: MI had reached the playoffs last year, for the first time since winning their fifth title in 2020 at that. They did, however, start in their typical slow fashion that they're known for with back-to-back defeats, against Royal Challengers Bangalore and CSK. MI would get their campaign on track with three consecutive wins, and from thereon it was a mixed run as they nearly lost as many matches as they won, hovering around the middle of the table.

Mumbai appeared to be peaking at the right time as they won three out of their last four league matches, including an eight-wicket hammering of Sunrisers Hyderabad in a chase of 201. Their chances of winning a record-extending sixth title appeared to be on the cards when they thrashed Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in the Eliminator. Gujarat Titans, the eventual runners-up, however, stopped them on their tracks with a 62-run win in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad.

Win percentage: Mumbai Indians have the second-best win percentage of 55.87, behind Chennai Super Kings (58.22) when looking at teams that have played a minimum of 50 matches. They have won 138, the most by any team, out of the 247 matches. They have lost a total of 105 games while four have ended in a tie — with MI winning two and losing as many in the Super Over.

Bonus Point: Mumbai also hold the record for the largest victory in terms of runs. They beat Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs in 2017. After amassing 212/3, they bundled out Delhi for 66 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Mumbai Indians have loved playing against KKR, they have the best win percentage (For teams against whom MI has played 10 or more matches) against the Knight Riders — 71.87 percent - with 23 wins from 32 matches and nine losses.

Bogey team: Punjab Kings

MI have the lowest win percentage against PBKS (For teams against whom MI has played 10 or more matches). They have lost 14 out of the 31 matches and won 16 (Win percentage of 51.61) with one ending in a tie which was won by Punjab in the Super Over.
