ICC World Test Championship: India docked two points for slow over rate in Test vs South Africa

India have been punished for keeping a slow over-rate in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion. As a result, India have been docked two points in the ICC World Test Championship standings and also been fined 10% of their match fee.

Chris Broad, part of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, imposed the sanctions on Rohit Sharma-captained India for being two overs short of the target.

As per the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 5 percent of their match fee for every over a side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

After the loss by an innings and 32 runs, India's unbeaten record in the ICC World Test Championship was brought to an end. It brought them to fifth place in the standings with 16 points from three Tests and a points percentage of 44.44.

However, the points deduction for the slow-over rate weakens India's position in the standings, seeing them slip below Australia to sixth place, with 14 points and a points percentage of 38.89.

The points deduction adds to what was a dreadful day for India at SuperSport Park as they were dismissed for 131 runs with only Virat Kohli providing a fight with 76 runs.
