India vs England: Harry Brook to miss Test series due to personal reasons; Dan Lawrence named replacement

England batter Harry Brook will miss the upcoming Test series against India due to personal reasons and will return to the United Kingdom, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Sunday. "Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. He will not be returning to India."

"The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space," the ECB added.

The ECB have announced right-handed batter Dan Lawrence as replacement for Brook. The 26-year-old will join the England camp in India in the next 24 hours, England Cricket posted on 'X' (Formerly Twitter).

The 24-year-old Brook has played 12 Test matches for England since making his debut against South Africa in September 2022. He has amassed 1181 runs at an average of 62.15, and has scored four centuries and seven half-centuries. In the last Test he played for England, in an Ashes Test last July, Brook scored a match-winning 85 in a match-winning cause at The Oval.

England have not won a Test series on Indian soil since 2012, when Alastair Cook and Co had come back from behind to clinch the four-match series 2-1.

The first Test is scheduled to start in Hyderabad from 25 January.
