R Ashwin created history on Saturday by taking the most five-wicket hauls for India in Test cricket history. Ashwin recorded his 36th fifer on the third day of the fifth Test between India and England in Dharamsala.

The 37-year-old broke spinner Anil Kumble's record for most five-wicket hauls (35). Overall, he matched legendary New Zealander Richard Hadlee and now has only Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne ahead of him.

The Sri Lankan Muralitharan took 67 five-wicket hauls during his illustrious career while Aussie Warne finished his career with 37 five-wicket hauls.

Ashwin also went level with Nathan Lyon with 10 five-wicket hauls in the World Test Championship (WTC) history. He also went past Pat Cummins' wickets tally of 172 scalps in the WTC. Lyon has the most wickets in WTC history with 184 scalps from 43 matches for Australia.
