Shreyas Iyer laments India's shortcomings in humbling nine-wicket defeat to England: 'We fell short'

India T20 captain Shreyas Iyer expressed dissatisfaction over the team's failure in terms of execution after England sealed a commanding nine-wicket victory on Thursday in Bristol County.

Team India’s struggles in T20 cricket continued as they suffered a 0‑3 series defeat to England. Skipper Shreyas Iyer played a captain’s knock, remaining unbeaten on 80 to guide the Men in Blue to 158/7.

However, their hopes of salvaging the fourth match were dashed when England chased down the target in just 13.5 overs.

'We fell short on our execution'

Iyer admitted post-match that India's total was below par and pointed out how quickly England chased it down. The skipper added that he had instructed the bowlers to stick to their lengths and also acknowledged that the team fell short in execution.

Iyer admits India in 'a transition phase'

Iyer also expressed that the Indian T20 side is in a transitional phase, saying that the players would assess their mistakes and adapt to the conditions.

"This is a transition phase, and we will be making mistakes. Have to realise how important it is to adapt. I'm sure there are quick learners in the team, and they will assess themselves," the India T20 captain added.

Team India would have the chance to seek redemption in the fifth and final T20 match of the series on Saturday, July 11, at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
