Sai Sudharsan suffered one of the most bizarre dismissals in cricket for the second game in a row as the Gujarat Titans opener was once again out hit wicket during Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 on Friday in New Chandigarh.

What made the dismissal even more shocking was the similarity between the two incidents. Batters usually get hit wicket once or twice in their entire career, but Sudharsan has now managed to do it in back-to-back IPL matches.

The incident happened in the 13th over of GT’s chase of 215 runs. Facing Brijesh Sharma, Sudharsan tried to play a sliced shot behind square on the off-square. The ball raced away to the boundary, but Sudharsan lost grip of his bat while playing the shot. The bat slipped and directly hit the stumps, ending his innings on 58 off just 32 balls.

Shubman Gill's reaction says it all

The crowd inside the Mullanpur stadium was stunned after witnessing the rare dismissal once again. GT captain Shubman Gill also looked shocked and dropped to his knees after seeing his opening partner get out in such unusual fashion for the second time in a row.

"I think I should try some things. I'm going to try some grip tech now and just bat few balls and see how it is.
But honestly, I don't have a lot of answer for how it happened," Sudharsan said after the match while speaking to Ravi Shastri.

"Last game it jumped, it just bounced a few times and hit the stump. This game, I just wanted to do it straight away, I think," he added.

Interestingly, the dismissal looked almost identical to what happened in Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this week. Sudharsan lost control of his bat while playing an attacking shot off Jacob Duffy. The bat bounced off the pitch and crashed into the stumps in a similar fashion.

Now, Sudharsan has repeated the same mistake again, making the incident even more bizarre. Commentators, including Ravi Shastri and Michael Clarke, said they couldn’t believe Sudharsan had done it for the second time. Shastri said he must be practising it, as this time the bat hit the stumps directly.

As far as the match is concerned, GT look favourites to win the match from here on and qualify for the IPL 2026 final against RCB. Shubman Gill and Sudharsan nullified Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's earlier efforts with a brilliant partnership to take GT closer to the target. RR had earlier posted 214 after Sooryavanshi rescused them from a collapse.
