Rishabh Pant fails to grasp Ian Bishop's question during awkward toss interview ahead of RR-LSG clash | WATCH

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant had a rather unique interaction with cricketer-turned-commentator Ian Bishop during the toss interview ahead of his team's away match against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.

Pant spoke to Bishop after Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was leading the Royals in the absence of regular captain Riyan Parag and elected to field after winning the toss. And his toss interview with Bishop was going all normal, with Pant revealing two changes for his team for their penultimate match of the season.

"Pretty confident, we know this is a good wicket to bat on. Happy to either bat or bowl first. Definitely, as I said in the last few games, we have a lot to play for. As a team, we take pride and confidence in playing every match for our fans," Pant said during toss.

"At the same time, we want to put our best foot forward because we know we have a good team and we can do it. Aiden (Markram) is not there because he has gone (home) for his personal thing. And just one more, Shami is not playing and Mohsin is playing. Badoni comes in for Aiden," the LSG skipper added.

Lost in translation

It was, however, when Bishop asked Pant about the reason behind Shami's absence where things took a hilarious turn. Bishop kept repeating the question and Pant kept misunderstanding it, assuming he was being asked about the player replacing Shami instead of the reason why the senior Indian pacer was sidelined.

Here's what the interaction went like:

Bishop: “What’s the issue with Shami?”

Pant: “Yeah”

Bishop: “What’s the issue?”

Pant: “Mohsin”

Bishop: “No what’s the issue with Shami? Shami’s out”

Pant: *Blank expression

Bishop: “Who’s out?”

Pant: “Shami’s out. Mohsin is in.”

Bishop: “Right. So I’m asking….”

Pant: “And Aiden is… Badoni comes in for Aiden”.

Bishop: “Alright, we can leave that there for the moment. Thank you very much for your time”

Pant: “Thank you”.

Super Giants post a daunting score against Royals

LSG, meanwhile, posted a daunting 220/5 on the board after being invited to bat by RR, with in-form opener Mitchell Marsh moving to the top of the run-scorer with an explosive 96 off just 57 deliveries.

Marsh, who had scored 111, 10 and 90 in his last three outings before Tuesday's game in Jaipur, shared a 109-run opening stand with fellow Australian Josh Inglis (60 off 29), helping the Super Giants plunder 83 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket.

Skipper Pant later chipped in with a handy 35 off 23 deliveries, collecting two fours and as many sixes before getting run-out in the final over of the innings.

LSG have already been eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoffs race and are playing for pride. RR, however, are one of five teams in contention for just one remaining playoff spot, and are in desperate need of a win.
