Rohit Sharma receives Padma Shri award from President Droupadi Murmu | Watch video

Indian batting icon and former captain Rohit Sharma was conferred with the Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian award, by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

Rohit, who had captained the Men in Blue to victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy and is among the greatest white-ball cricketers ever, was among 65 individuals honoured at the second Civil Investiture Ceremony in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Rohit had missed the first investiture ceremony on 25 May due to professional and personal commitments but was present in the second event nearly a month later with wife Ritika Sajdeh.

Rohit had retired from Twenty20 Internationals as well as Test cricket recently and is active only in One-Day Internationals, in which he has nearly 12,000 runs to his name. He also continues to play for Mumbai Indians, the franchise he helped win five titles, in the Indian Premier League.

Tennis icon Vijay Amritraj conferred with Padma Bhushan

Hockey icon Savita Punia, who had helped the Indian women's team finish fourth at the Tokyo Olympics and win bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, was also conferred the Padma Shri.

Tennis legend Vijay Amritaj, meanwhile, received with the Padma Bhushan, the country's third-highest civilian award, during the same ceremony.

Amritraj, who is also a popular commentator, is counted among India's greatest tennis players of all time who had reached a career-high singles ranking of 16 and had also guided the country to two Davis Cup finals. He had also reached the quarter-finals at the Wimbledon as well as the US Open.

The Padma Awards, which recognise distinguished service and exceptional achievement across a wide range of fields including sport, were first constituted in 1954 and are announced annually on the occasion of Republic Day.
