Pant fumes at Jaiswal for lazy approach at short-leg, Pujara reminded of Dhawan

Yashasvi Jaiswal has a quite a few things in common with Shikhar Dhawan. Both are left-handed opening batters who like to play aggressive cricket. However, Cheteshwar Pujara found out one more similarity between the two - that they both did not like fielding at short-leg.

As South Africa kept scoring on the second day of the second Test in Guwahati, India captain Rishabh Pant tried different field set-ups. He would open up the field at times and bring his men closer to the batters at other times. However, the field changes did not work as expected and South Africa posted a mammoth 489-run total in the first innings.

India reached 9 without loss at stumps on Day 2 and will start with a deficit of 480 runs on the third day.

Pant scolds Jaiswal

Stand-in India captain Pant put Jaiswal on short-leg but was unhappy with his approach at the close-in position. In a video going viral on social media, Pant is seen telling Jaiswal to go towards the ball with his hands instead of just using his feet.

"Stretch your hands out... How will you catch? Bring your hands out. Just pushing your feet wouldn't do. Bring your hands out," a frustrated Pant could be heard telling Jaiswal in the conversation caught on the stump mic.

Pujara reminded of Dhawan

In the commentary box, former India batter Pujara said he was reminded of Dhawan when Jaiswal was fielding poorly at short-leg."No batter wants to positioned at short-leg. Here Yashasvi is just not moving to put an impression that he is not a good enough fielder," Pujara said on air.

"There's one more player I would like to name with whom I played. He fielded in same way so that the captain would think this player would not be able to catch anything and remove him from that spot. Shikhar Dhawan... whenever he used to be asked to field at short-leg he would say 'my back is really tight, I won't be able to bend properly'. When he was batting or fielding in outfield, he was fine but as soon as he came to short-leg, he would not be able to bend his back," Pujara joked about the ex-India opener.

India vs South Africa 2nd Test Day 2

South Africa gained control of the second Test as they batted 151.1 overs and posted 489 runs on the board in the first innings. The star of the show was Senuran Muthsamy who scored his first Test century and scored 109.

Marco Jansen was another star of South Africa's batting with the all-rounder smashing a 91-ball 93 in an innings where he broke the record of most sixes by a visiting batter in India in a Test innings.

Kuldeep Yadav finished with four wickets for India who reached 9/0 at stumps on Day 2.
