Ponting names top T20 World Cup performers as no Indian gets full marks; Samson, Bumrah in second place

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has shared his player ratings for the recently concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, praising several standout performers from the tournament. Interestingly, no Indian player received full marks from Ponting, even though India went on to win the title.

India defeated New Zealand in the summit clash in Ahmedabad on March 8 to become the first team to win the T20 World Cup title at home and also the first side to successfully defend it. Several Indian players came up with strong performances throughout the competition to help their team win.

Ponting snubs Indian players to name Will Jacks as top performer

Meanwhile, Ponting has named England allrounder Will Jacks as the top performer and gave him a perfect rating of 10 out of 10. Jacks impressed with both bat and ball and played a crucial role for England in the tournament. He even scored some key runs in the semifinal against India, but couldn't guide his team to victory as England were eventually knocked out.

Indian players Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah were placed just behind him with a rating of 9.5 out of 10. Samson had a fantastic tournament with the bat and finished as India’s highest run-scorer. He also ended as the third-highest run-getter overall in the competition and won the Player of the Tournament award for his match-winning innings in back-to-back knockout matches.

Bumrah was equally impressive with the ball. The Indian pacer finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament along with Varun Chakravarthy. One of his best performances came in the semifinal, where he bowled crucial overs in the death to prevent England from chasing down a mammoth total.

Ponting also included two other players among the top performers of the tournament. New Zealand opener Tim Seifert received a rating of 9 out of 10 after finishing among the top run-scorers. Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan was also praised for his consistent performances and was given a rating of 9.5.
