Two five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to clash in a high-stakes Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, with both sides desperate to snap their inconsistent run and climb the points table.

MI have managed just two wins from six matches and sit in seventh place, while CSK are eighth with an identical 2-4 record but a poorer Net Run Rate of -0.780.

MI ended a four-match losing streak with a commanding 99-run victory over Gujarat Titans, powered by Tilak Varma’s explosive century and a clinical bowling effort. However, before that, their batting and bowling units had looked shaky as they lost four back-to-back matches.

CSK, meanwhile, have shown flashes of brilliance with a couple of wins but have largely struggled with consistency. Their batting order has failed to fire regularly, the middle order has looked vulnerable, and the bowling has lacked penetration in key moments, leaving them stuck near the bottom of the ten-team table.

The injury to the in-form Ayush Mhatre further adds to their troubles while it is still unlikely that MS Dhoni will feature in this match. Rohit Sharma too is doubtful to come back for MI.

MI vs CSK: Match Prediction

MI vs CSK Winner Prediction: Mumbai Indians

A tight contest can be expected at the high-scoring Wankhede Stadium, but MI appear the slightly superior side on current form and home advantage. MI possess several dangerous match-winners who can turn the game quickly. With Jasprit Bumrah hitting form, the bowling is looking stronger and the batting already has match-winners filled from top to bottom. The return of Will Jacks will also be a big boost for MI, making them an even stronger side.

CSK will heavily depend on players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube to produce moments of magic and their bowling too is not strong enough to stop MI batters on a batting paradise in Mumbai.

CSK Probable XII: Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Urvil Patel, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton, Akeal Hosein, Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmad, Spencer Johnson, Gurjapneet Singh (IP)
