Delhi Capitals seamer Lungi Ngidi sustained a nasty injury while in action against the Punjab Kings on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The fast bowler was on fielding duty in the second innings and landed awkwardly during a catch attempt.

The moment happened in the third over when Lungi Ngidi attempted a catch to dismiss PBKS opener Priyansh Arya, but could not hold on to the ball. Ngidi could not get his landing right and hit his head hard as he fell to the ground.

Lungi Ngidi suffers nasty head impact

Lungi Ngidi's nasty hit to the head triggered immediate concern as medical staff rushed to check on him. The South African looked concussed, even though he was responding to the physio.

The moment prompted a medical time-out, with players and coaches in both camps looking distressed over the situation that unfolded at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Soon after, Ngidi was strapped onto the stretcher, put inside the ambulance and sent to the hospital for further treatment.

Dushmantha Chameera, the Sri Lankan pacer, was brought in to replace Lungi Ngidi as a concussion replacement.

DC yet to share update on Ngidi

Lungi Ngidi's head injury occurred at a crucial juncture as the Punjab Kings had picked up a solid start in the powerplay overs. The South African pacer has been crucial for DC in terms of taking wickets.

On 'X', the Indian Premier League expressed concern over Ngidi's injury and hoped for his quick recovery, saying, "Our thoughts are with Lungi Ngidi who sustained a head injury during #DCvPBKS match. Wishing him a speedy recovery."

The Delhi Capitals also prayed for the seamer's recovery but have yet to provide an update on his injury.
