Lungi Ngidi injury: IPL franchises unite in support after DC pacer suffers nasty fall: 'Sending all our strength'

Lungi Ngidi had suffered a major injury scare on Saturday after hitting his head on the ground while attempting to collect a catch during Delhi Capitals' home fixture against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League on Saturday.

Such was the impact of his awkward fall that he had to be carried on a stretcher to an ambulance before being rushed to a hospital, with Delhi Police creating a 'Green Corridor' that allowed him to reach the BLK Max Super Speciality Hospital in 11 minutes during the evening rush hour.

There was a considerable amount of concern for the South African pacer, who was seen clutching his head after impact and complaining of headache as well as neck pain. Several players and members of support staff had gathered around Ngidi with a worried look on their faces.

And on social media, there was an outpouring of support and well-wishes for the 30-year-old from former cricketers and fans as well as other IPL franchises.

"Hope Lungi is fine!" read a post from Punjab Kings, the team Delhi Capitals were up against in the afternoon clash of the Saturday double-header.

Ngidi's former IPL franchises Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings also offered words of support on X.

"That fall looked nasty. Lungi, we hope you're ok mate. Wishing you a speedy recovery," read a post from defending champions RCB.

"Sending all our strength to Lungi Ngidi and wishing him a smooth recovery," CSK wrote on Saturday.

Ngidi, meanwhile, was discharged from the hospital and had returned to the team hotel later on Saturday, with Capitals Chairman and co-owner Kiran Kumar Ghandi having visited him while he was admitted. The pacer had undergone scans at the hospital, all of which turned out to be normal.
