Ireland scripted one of the biggest moments in their cricket history by defeating India in a T20I series, and at the centre of the historic achievement was a player with Indian roots. Jai Moondra, an Indian passport holder from Rajasthan, produced a dream international debut as he helped Ireland complete a stunning 2-0 whitewash against the current T20 world champions.

Who is Jai Moondra?

Born on January 10, 1997, in Tonk, Rajasthan, Moondra moved to Ireland in 2021 to pursue a master's degree in electronics and communication at Technological University Dublin. Before becoming a professional cricketer, he also worked in the IT sector while continuing to follow his passion for cricket.

A left-handed batter and left-arm fast-medium bowler, Moondra began his cricket journey in Ireland after joining Leinster Cricket Club in Dublin. His hard work eventually earned him opportunities in domestic cricket, where he represented Leinster in Ireland's inter-provincial competitions.

He made his T20 debut for Leinster against North West Warriors in August 2024 and played his first List A match against Munster Reds in May 2025. His performances in domestic cricket continued to improve, and he earned a place in a first-class team for the 2026 Emerald Challenge to prepare for the New Zealand Test match.

His breakthrough moment arrived when he received his maiden call-up to Ireland's T20I squad for the series against India. Making his debut in Belfast on June 26, Moondra created history immediately by dismissing Sanju Samson with his very first ball in international cricket.

That wicket helped Ireland register their first-ever victory over India in any format. In the second T20I, Moondra once again played a key role, picking up three wickets for 32 runs as Ireland completed a memorable series whitewash.
