Shubman Gill laments GT's batting lapses in decisive overs and bowling failures in loss to RCB

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has owned up to the missed chances and limitations, admitting that they failed to seize the chances during the IPL 2026 match against RCB on Thursday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru powered through the chase with an exceptional batting display. Virat Kohli's 81 of 44 and Devdutt Padikkal's blistering 27-ball 55 set the tone, while Krunal Pandya took care of things towards the death overs to secure a five-wicket victory.

Gill laments GT's missed opportunities

Following the match, Shubman Gill highlighted that they failed to gather runs in overs 16 to 19, which restricted them to 205/3. The GT skipper added that they did not get as many runs as they would have preferred, signalling that scoring in those overs was crucial for the side, but they failed to capitalise.

"I think, from 16 till 19, those three overs, we couldn't get any boundaries, and we didn't get as many runs as we would have liked. I think those three overs were very crucial for us," Shubman Gill said at the post-match presentation.

Shubman Gill further acknowledged that they failed to hit the length ball, which could have benefited them, as it would be hard to hit on this pitch.

"With the ball, I think we had our moments, but I don't think we were able to consistently hit the length ball, which was at times difficult to hit on this wicket. And you know, some balls here and there, and I think they batted brilliantly in the middle overs," the GT skipper added.

Gill jokes over Sudharsan for not giving strike

Gujarat Titans' Sai Sudharsan secured a record-setting hundred, smashing 100 runs off 58 deliveries in the first innings. The opener struck 11 boundaries and five sixes, establishing dominance in the first innings, but his ton went in vain as RCB overpowered GT in Bengaluru.

Shubman Gill opened on his compatriot's knock, saying that he bounced back after being disappointed with his early performance. But the GT skipper remains hopeful of receiving 'a bit more strike' during powerplay overs.
