India's tour of Bangladesh ran into a fresh problem just weeks after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) put the media rights tender bid on hold, raising uncertainty about whether the series will go ahead.

Two weeks ago, the BCB issued a tender notification for television and digital media rights, signalling that the previously deferred series is finally set to take place and suggesting that tensions between the BCCI and BCB have eased.

However, there have been some fresh twists and turns in the situation.

'A slight change in plans'

According to Cricbuzz, the India-Bangladesh series may have been pushed back once again, as the BCB has put the process on hold. The board has yet to release the Expression of Interest (EoI) documents due to changes in planning, adding uncertainty over whether the series will go ahead.

"We have not issued the EoI documents because there has been a slight change in plans. We are now assessing the market before inviting bids. It is not true that we are withholding the EoI documents because of the India series," a BCB source said.

Why did BCB divert from their plans?

The BCB's sudden move sparked a wave of theories on why they paused the media rights process. The report added a couple of theories, with one suggesting that the BCCI were not delighted that the BCB opened bidding for the media rights deal without prior discussions.

But sources suggest that representatives of both cricket boards have held discussions about the same during the ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Another theory suggests the BCB withheld the EoI document because the dates had not yet been finalised.

India’s tour of Bangladesh, which is set to feature three ODIs and three T20 international matches, still lacks official confirmation, leaving uncertainty over whether the series will take place.
