India and South Africa are all set to lock horns against each other on Sunday, February 22, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in what many are calling a repeat of the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Both teams are unbeaten so far in this edition, which makes this Super 8 clash even more exciting.

India had a smooth journey in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2026. They defeated USA, Namibia and the Netherlands comfortably. The only big challenge on paper was Pakistan, but Suryakumar Yadav and his team dominated that match as well and won by 61 runs.

However, the real test now comes against a strong South African side led by Aiden Markram in the Super 8 stage. One big concern for India will be the form of opener Abhishek Sharma. The attacking left-hander has not scored a single run in this tournament so far, registering three ducks in the games he has played.

South Africa are also coming in with sensational form, having won all their group-stage games to qualify from a tough Group D. They defeated New Zealand, Afghanistan, UAE and Canada to reach the Super 8 stage undefeated. The only concern for the Proteas ahead of the big match will be their spin resource.

South Africa have only Keshav Maharaj as a specialist spinner in the squad, with Aiden Markram chipping in every now and then. It could create a problem when they meet India in Ahmedabad, but it all depends on the surface of the pitch and how it plays.

Narendra Modi Stadium pitch report

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium is known to be good for batting, especially as the match goes on. The night matches at this venue have generally been high-scoring and favourable for teams chasing. Dew often plays a role in the second innings, which makes batting easier under lights and puts pressure on the bowlers defending a total. This was also evident during India's match against the Netherlands, where they nearly chased down the target of over 190.

This is also the same venue where a thrilling double Super Over match between South Africa and Afghanistan took place earlier in the tournament, with the Proteas coming out on top. The match is expected to be played on a black-soil surface, which often slows down as the match progresses. So, fans should not expect a run fest tonight.

Ahmedabad weather forecast

As per AccuWeather, the weather in Ahmedabad is expected to be hot and slightly hazy during the day. The temperature will be around 30°C in the morning and may rise up to 36°C in the afternoon. By evening, it is expected to drop to around 26°C.

The good news for fans is that there is no chance of rain. The skies are likely to be clear by the time the match starts, which means we should get a full game without any weather interruptions.
