India and Pakistan are set to renew one of cricket’s biggest rivalries as the two teams face each other in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in the United Kingdom.

The fixture is one of the most anticipated games of the tournament, with the ICC once again placing India and Pakistan in the same group to ensure fans get to witness the blockbuster contest at least once and the broadcaster makes its money.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will enter the tournament with hopes of going all the way and finally winning the T20 World Cup just as they ended the ODI World Cup wait last year. However, the team has dealt with injuries to key players and suffered defeats against South Africa and England in recent series.

Despite this, India still remain one of the strongest teams in the competition. But their key players will have to find form quickly. India's opening combination of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana will be under the spotlight after struggling to produce big partnerships in recent matches.

Pakistan, meanwhile, will be looking to create an upset after struggling in recent T20 World Cup campaigns. They have not managed more than one win in a single edition since 2016, but captain Fatima Sana believes the team has the ability to challenge the top sides.

Fatima Sana’s fitness will be an important factor after she suffered a blow to her knee during training. However, the Pakistan captain is still expected to play the opening match against India.
