Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson's honest admission on failure to win against India: 'The reality is...'

Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has said that not just Pakistan but every single team in the world is struggling to beat India as the Men In Blue are currently the best team in the world by some distance.

Pakistan have not been able to beat India in any format since 2022. The two countries do not engage in bilateral cricket and only clash in multi-nation tournament. The Indo-Pak cricket encounters are among the most watched sporting events in the world even though the two sides rarely play each other.

Hesson's honest admission

Hesson, who has been with the Pakistani side since 2025, has seen his team lose to their arch rivals thrice in last year's Asia Cup and then recently at the T20 World Cup. However, he believes not only Pakistan but other teams too are struggling against India.

"In the Asia Cup last year, for example, we won every game except against India," Hesson was quoted as saying by Cricinfo. "The reality is every single team in the world is struggling to beat India at the moment. Every team, not just Pakistan. Rightly or wrongly, Pakistan are gauged by how they perform against India. And at the moment, India is not only the best team; they're the best team by a mile."

Hesson also said that Pakistan need to regularly win against all teams in order to become a team that is a consistent feature in the knockouts of big events.

"At the T20 World Cup, we lost to England in the Super 8 off the back of a Harry Brook hundred and a very tight game outside of that. We won every [other] game except India. From 2023-2025, we didn't make it out of the pool in ICC events. So you can't go from eighth in the world to all of a sudden competing unless you start winning more regular games of cricket," he said.
