Anil Kumble slams Yashasvi Jaiswal for poor shot; Dinesh Karthik says England are favourites at Lord's: 'India are in a hole'

Former Indian cricketers Anil Kumble and Dinesh Karthik feel that England are now favourites to win the Lord's Test on Day 5 Monday. England need six more wickets to win the third Test and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series, while India are still 135 runs away from the 193-run target.

The Ben Stokes-led England will return to the field of play on Day 5 with renewed vigour after the skipper dismissed Akash Deep on the last delivery of Day 4. India have already lost Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, while KL Rahul is on unbeaten 33.

Kumble criticises Jaiswal for poor shot

Rishabh Pant, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are the notable batters yet to come in for the visitors and India will hope they can finish the job for them, but Kumble feels England are on top currently after late dismissals of Nair and Gill. He also rebuked Jaiswal for his poor shot against Jofra Archer's short ball that led to his dismissal.

"No draw, that’s for sure. That was a possibility, I guess, after Day 3 — but certainly not anymore," Kumble told JioHotstar. "There’s been a lot of drama, and what this Test match has shown is that both teams have, at different points, let go and then pulled it back. It’s been a proper seesaw.

"India had a great chance — they did really well to restrict England to 192 and then got to 41 for 1. I thought Yashasvi Jaiswal played a very poor shot early in his innings, but Karun Nair and KL Rahul batted well to get to that 41. Then once Karun got out and Shubman Gill followed, it’s now slightly tilted back in England’s favour. India will need a massive partnership from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant tomorrow.”

Dinesh Karthik says India are in a 'hole'

Meanwhile, former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik added that England are firm favourites going into Day 5 as India lost some crucial wickets at the end of day's play on Sunday.

"WinViz says 68% India but I believe it's 60% in England's favour," Karthik told Sky Sports. "They have got three big wickets already, a couple of wickets more and there's a word called pressure that makes you do very very awkward and weird things. India have kind of got themselves in a hole. Ideally, you wanted to see past this stage with two wickets, not more than that. It's three wickets down and England have the upper hand as of now."

Former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta said that Rahul will be key to India's remaining chase. "KL Rahul is going to be very very important in the scheme of things. He gives you that solidity, he gives you that sense of security when he's out there," he told BCC.
