Team India's Test tour to Sri Lanka pencilled for August 2026; Bangladesh series left in limbo: Report

Team India is set to visit Sri Lanka for a Test series, which is reportedly set to happen later in the year. The dates are yet to be finalised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Sri Lanka Cricket.

The Indian cricket team, led by Shubman Gill, are reportedly set to tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in August 2026. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has identified a two-week window for the much-anticipated red-ball series, though the exact dates are yet to be finalised.

India-Sri Lanka Test expected in August

According to Cricbuzz, sources within the BCCI and SLC have revealed that the India-Sri Lanka Test series is likely to be played between August 15 and 27, 2026. The proposed schedule has already been shared with stakeholders, including the Indian cricket board.

The tour will be part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

However, there is no clarity on whether the three-match T20I series -- proposed as a fundraiser for victims of Cyclone Ditwah -- would be added, as India’s packed schedule in the following months makes it difficult to find a window.

IND vs BAN series remains uncertain

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over Team India’s deferred tour of Bangladesh. The six-match white-ball series was postponed by the BCCI and BCB last year.

The heightened political tensions between the countries may have complicated the situation, as reports suggest that no progress has been made.

Secretary Devajit Saikia "refused to comment" on whether the deferred tour would take place and kept the focus on immediate fixtures.

The BCB are working to improve cricketing ties with the BCCI.

Following the 2026 Indian Premier League, Team India resumes its international commitments in a one-off Test match against Afghanistan on June 6 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in Mullanpur. The Men in Blue would be in action in Ireland, England and Zimbabwe before flying down to Sri Lanka.
