India's squad for Afghanistan series announced: Rohit retained in ODI squad as multiple maiden call-ups handed

Contrary to the media reports, Rohit Sharma has been picked in India's ODI squad for Afghanistan series but his availability will be subject to fitness test.

Rohit Sharma was retained in the Indian ODI squad for the three-match Afghanistan series, subject to fitness clearance on Tuesday, as the BCCI selectors brought an end to the rumours that the former captain will be axed from the team.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from the Test squad for the one-off match vs Afghanistan and the ODIs to manage his workload. Ravindra Jadeja does not feature in either of the squads.

Multiple maiden call-ups in India squads

The one-off Test vs Afghanistan, which will start on 6 June, will be the first for India since their 2-0 defeat to South Africa at home last November. Apart from Bumrah and Jadeja, all-rounder Axar Patel and pacer Akash Deep have also been omitted.

Meanwhile, left-arm spin all-rounder Manav Suthar, fast bowler Gurnoor Brar and left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey have received maiden call-ups to the Test squad.

Pacer Prince Yadav, Brar and Dubey have also got their maiden call-ups to the ODI squad.

Dhruv Jurel, Ayush Badoni, Rishabh Pant, Harshit Rana, Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj are not a part of the ODI squad. They were when India played their last ODI series at home against New Zealand in January. Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya have returned to the ODI squad.

The India vs Afghanistan Test will be played at New Chandigarh, while the ODIs will take place on 14, 17 and 20 June.
