India squad for Women's T20 World Cup announced: Amanjot Kaur misses out, uncapped Nandani Sharma included

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Amanjot Kaur missed out on a place in India's squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which was unveiled at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday, 2 May. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia announced the 15-player squad for the mega event in the presence of captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who had led India to victory in the ODI World Cup on home soil last year, as well as chief selector Amita Sharma.

The same squad will face England in a three‑match T20I series, which will serve as the final preparation for both teams ahead of the marquee women’s cricket tournament.

India Women's squad, led by Harmanpreet, features key batters like Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh. Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh will primarily lead the bowling unit.

In place of Amanjot, who was part of the squad that helped India win its maiden ICC trophy in women's cricket last November, the selection committee has included uncapped seamer Nandini Sharma, who had finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the Women's Premier League earlier this year. Nandini's efforts played a key role in helping the Delhi Capitals reach the final for the third consecutive edition.

Apart from Nandani, the ICC Women's T20 World Cup will be the maiden appearance for players like Bharti Fulmali, Shree Charani and Kranti Gaud.

India will be aiming to join only a handful of teams in women's cricket to win both the ODI and T20I world titles and begin their campaign on 14 June against Pakistan in Birmingham. The women in blue are part of Group A alongside teams like Australia, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and South Africa.
