India vs Bangladesh white-ball series on the cards? BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia provides key schedule update
The Indian men’s cricket team was originally slated to play an away white-ball tour, featuring a three‑match ODI and T20I series against Bangladesh in August 2025, which was later deferred to September 2026.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has issued an update for Team India's schedule after the conclusion of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. He has revealed that India has a packed schedule until the England tour, but has made no mention of the series against Bangladesh.
The Indian men's cricket team was supposed to visit Bangladesh in August 2025 for a white-ball series. The tour featured a three-match ODI and a three-match T20I series, but it was deferred following discussions between the BCCI and BCB.
The BCCI had earlier confirmed that the series would take place in September 2026 due to the scheduling convenience and the international cricketing commitments of both teams.
BCCI secretary offers no update on BAN tour
In his most recent appearance, however, Saikia made no mention of the tour of Bangladesh, instead focusing on other international commitments. During India's squad announcement for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, Saikia highlighted that the men's team has a packed schedule until the UK tour, but did not elaborate on the assignments beyond that trip.
“Our home schedule is packed after the IPL. There is a series against Afghanistan, followed by the UK tour. After the UK tour, we’ll consider the remaining part of the season," Saikia said.
Strained bilateral ties affected IND-BAN series?
One of the key reasons behind the suspense over the India-Bangladesh white-ball series is the strained geopolitical relations between the two countries. Tensions escalated when the BCCI instructed KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman, and then Bangladesh boycotted matches in India during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, citing security concerns.
While the BCB reached out to the BCCI to seek new avenues and improve strained ties, there is no update on whether the tour will take place.
Following the IPL 2026 season, Team India will face Afghanistan at home, starting with a one-off Test and followed by a three-match ODI series. The Men in Blue will make a stop in Ireland for a two-match T20I series in June before heading to England for a white-ball tour in July 2026.
