Suryakumar Yadav fined as ICC suspends Haris Rauf over controversial gesture in Asia Cup 2025

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has handed a two-match suspension to Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf after finding him guilty of repeated Code of Conduct violations during the Asia Cup 2025. The ICC on Tuesday confirmed disciplinary actions against several players from India and Pakistan following incidents in the high-voltage encounters held in September.

Rauf was found guilty of breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to conduct that brings the game into disrepute, in both the group-stage and final clashes against India. The pacer was fined 30 per cent of his match fee on both occasions and accumulated four demerit points within 24 months, triggering an automatic two-match suspension.

As a result of this suspension, Rauf missed Pakistan’s first ODI against South Africa on November 4 and will miss another game on November 6. Rauf’s provocative fighter jet gestures aimed at Indian fans during the Asia Cup matches are the cause of the disciplinary action.

SKY fined for his political statement

India captain Suryakumar Yadav was also fined 30 per cent of his match fee and given two demerit points for the same breach during the September 14 match and further clashes. SKY’s political comments on the Pahalgam terror attack and refusal to shake hands with Pakistan players contributed to the sanction.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah accepted an official warning and one demerit point for a similar fighter jet gesture in the final on September 28, where he mocked Rauf’s celebration after dismissing him. Sahibzada Farhan also received a warning and one demerit point for his gun celebration after scoring a fifty in the Super 4 clash against India.

Arshdeep Singh, on the other hand, was cleared of any wrongdoing in a separate incident involving an alleged offensive gesture he may have made after India's victory over Pakistan in the summit clash of the same tournament.

Meanwhile, the Indian team has still not received the Asia Cup trophy, even a month after winning the title. India defeated Pakistan three times in the tournament, including in the final, but ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy away after the Indian players refused to accept it from him. The issue is expected to be brought up by the BCCI at the ICC meeting in Dubai this week.
