Hardik Pandya IPL trade chatter fizzles as MI, CSK confirm talks 'definitely not on the table'

Speculation around Hardik Pandya’s possible IPL trade has proven unfounded, with franchises such as the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians categorically denying any talks to trade the Indian all-rounder.

The Chennai Super Kings issued a clarification on reports claiming the five-time IPL champions were linked to a sensational trade to bring Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya on Wednesday.

Pandya has emerged as one of the major talking points in the Indian Premier League (IPL) amid growing speculation about a possible trade ahead of the 2027 season. The all-rounder has struggled to deliver as the Mumbai Indians' captain in two seasons, after failing to make the playoffs. In 2026, the franchise slipped to ninth place in the standings.

CSK deny Pandya trade rumours

Speaking to Cricbuzz, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan denied reports of a possible Pandya trade being in the works, saying that they haven't taken any decision and are yet to complete their review of the season.

"We have not taken any decision, and it is definitely not on the table as yet. We are aware which player is up for trade, and we will discuss it once we complete our review of the season, which will only be after the ongoing MLC. There is still a lot of time for that," the CSK CEO said.

MI clears the air on the status with skipper Pandya

While speculation has been intense, the Hardik Pandya situation appears far more complex, especially after the Mumbai Indians issued a clear statement addressing the trade rumours.

"Currently, we are not engaged in conversations with regard to player trades; the same is only possible once the review is complete," a franchise spokesperson said.

While MI have categorically denied any trade speculations, reports have said that Pandya and the franchise management have had discussions, and details haven't been revealed.

If Hardik Pandya is indeed traded, the Mumbai Indians would attract multiple suitors eager to acquire the star all-rounder. Franchises such as the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals are expected to be among the interested parties, and whether MI will engage in such a move remains to be seen.
