Gill-Sundar stand sets up GT’s big total – Earlier in the game, the Gujarat Titans piled on a big total, riding on a strong top-order display and a crucial partnership in the middle. Jos Buttler provided early momentum with a quick-fire 52 off 27, but the real highlight was the 104-run stand between skipper Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar. Back from injury, Gill looked in sublime touch with a classy 70 off 45, while Sundar brought up his maiden IPL fifty in style. Delhi’s bowling effort was a mixed bag – Mukesh Kumar picked up a couple but went for runs, Kuldeep Yadav and Lungi Ngidi chipped in with one each, with the Protea standing out for his control, returning figures of 1/24 in an otherwise challenging outing for the attack.

Titans hold their nerve – Gujarat Titans will be more relieved than happy here. They went wicketless in the Powerplay, with none of the bowlers making an impact early on. However, it was the Afghan magician Rashid Khan who turned the game with a double-wicket over, and then removed Axar on the last ball of his spell to finish with incredible figures of 3/17. Siraj picked up the big wicket of KL Rahul but was taken for plenty in the penultimate over, while Prasidh Krishna, who also got a couple, held his nerve brilliantly, executing a superb slower bumper on the final ball. Credit also goes to Jos Buttler for hitting the stumps to complete the run-out that sealed the game.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH – Rashid Khan wins the award for his excellent spell of 3/17. He says that he is happy with how things panned out and he felt good bowling today. Especially after a period of being out of the game for a few months some time back, he is feeling better and trying to hit his marks. On his wickets, he says that he practiced in the nets to try and bowl from around the wicket to Axar Patel. Further mentions that GT have been a part of some really close games in the last few years and just tried to tell the pacers to bowl their best delivery no matter what.

A quick chat – GT’s Jos Buttler says that it feels great to get the win, which they desperately needed. On scoring a fifty, Jos says that he feels good but he’s played for long enough to know that the lean patch would go away at some point. Buttler mentions that they do have a good team and it is a long tournament, but they need to play well in order to stay in the race for the playoffs. On Rashid Khan, Buttler says that this kind of wicket suits him and he bowled really well tonight. On being 35 and staying motivated, Buttler says that he’ll try to keep playing for as long as possible.

Could have played a bit smartly – Axar Patel, the captain of Delhi Capitals, says that both teams played very good cricket and in these close games, it can always go either way. Adds that in close games, you can point out a lot of things, but feels that they could have played a bit smartly to not lose wickets at crucial stages. On KL Rahul, Axar says that the way KL kept the momentum high even after the Powerplay was brilliant and hopefully, he finishes off the game next time.

Rahul leads the charge – Delhi Capitals got off to a flying start, with Pathum Nissanka taking charge while KL Rahul played second fiddle. It got even better as they capped the Powerplay with a 23-run over, racing to 63/0 after six. However, Nissanka fell for 41 off 24, which only pushed Rahul to shift gears as he brought up a 29-ball fifty. The game turned briefly when they were pegged back, losing Rana and, more importantly, Sameer Rizvi, who has been their hero, in the same over. That, though, didn’t deter Rahul, who kept chipping away at the target, but the real blow came when he fell for a superb 92, leaving them in a tough spot.

It is all happening. Gujarat Titans are celebrating here, with Kuldeep Yadav being run out. However, David Miller has taken the review for a wide over head height. If it is, we will have another ball, or else it’s a 1-run win for the Titans. The replay and Ball Tracking confirm it is below Miller’s head, and he is devastated. We have seen that glum face of Miller before, in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Rabada, quickly goes to his South African mate, and has his hand wrapped around Miller’s shoulder. Great camaraderie.

One run, endless questions – David Miller, despite a thumb injury, returned to fight on and almost pulled off something special, smashing 41 off 20 and bringing the equation down to 2 off 2 from 36 needed off the final two overs. But in a moment that will be debated for a long time, he turned down a single on the penultimate ball, a decision that ultimately cost them the game, with Kuldeep run out on the final delivery as Delhi Capitals fell short by just one run.

Drama till the very end – An absolute rollercoaster of a game in the Capital City, and surely one of the best this season. It had everything – twists, drama, and high-pressure moments, as the Gujarat Titans pulled a rabbit out of the hat, although in all honesty, it was served on a platter to them, and importantly, they get their first win of the season. It’s still hard to fathom how Delhi Capitals let this slip, and that call from Miller to turn down the single on the penultimate ball will be talked about for a long time.

19.6 – OUT! KULDEEP YADAV IS RUN OUT! Unbelievable end to the game, GT WIN BY 1 RUN. A slower bumper from Prasidh Krishna, a gutsy delivery to bowl, but he gets it right. The ball is just outside off and helmet height. David Miller has to reach for it but is undone by the lack of pace and the extra bounce. The ball bounces behind to the keeper and the batters try to sneak in the bye. Jos Buttler, who had taken off his right glove before the last delivery for this particular scenario, gets his opportunity to win the game and he underarms the throw at the stumps to perfection. Yadav dives in but in vain. However, the drama isn’t over there as Miller reviews it for a wide for height but replays suggest that it is a fair delivery. Miller is heartbroken, but the GT players are ecstatic.
