Big blow to Chennai Super Kings as star youngster ruled out of remainder of IPL 2026 due to injury

Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback in the ongoing (Indian Premier League) IPL 2026 as young batter Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

The franchise confirmed that Mhatre picked up a left hamstring injury during CSK’s previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. In an official statement shared on social media, CSK said that the 18-year-old will need a rehabilitation period of six to 12 weeks, effectively ending his campaign this season.

Why Ayush Mhatre's injury is a big blow to CSK?

Mhatre got injured while batting in that match and was seen in clear discomfort while attempting a run. He immediately clutched his hamstring and needed treatment on the field. Although he tried to continue for a short time, he was dismissed soon after as CSK went on to lose the match by 10 runs in Hyderabad.

Mhatre was one of the few positives for CSK this season. The young batter had been in excellent form, scoring 201 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of 177.87. His aggressive approach at the top had given CSK strong starts in several games.

Chennai Super Kings have already struggled this season, losing four out of their six matches and currently sitting in the lower half of the table. With Mhatre now out of the team, their task becomes even more difficult with the responsibility now falling on Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dewald Brevis and others.
