BCCI issues clarification over Rohit Sharma's future in 50-over cricket following England series: 'Lord's ODI won't be his last'

Amid significant chatter over Rohit Sharma's status following the England one-day series, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has issued clarity on the subject on Friday ahead of the Lord's ODI.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed on Friday that the 3rd ODI match between India and England at Lord's would not be the last of former India captain Rohit Sharma.

Speculations about Rohit's future in one-day cricket have been rife ever since it was reported that the selectors are keen to provide Yashasvi Jaiswal a longer rope ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. The rumours led to retirement buzz, given that the Hitman's status following the England tour looked uncertain.

'Lord's ODI won't be Rohit's last match'

Speaking to PTI, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that Rohit isn't going anywhere and said that the Lord's ODI would not be his last outing for the Indian cricket team.

Rohit 'unhappy' with how the situation was dealt with

While Saikia confirmed that Rohit would continue representing India as long as he is in the scheme of things, the BCCI is reportedly unhappy with how chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir 'looked at the issue.'

The report added that Rohit was displeased at being informed of the decision just before a crucial match, having already voiced concerns over the treatment of senior players.

As India builds toward the 2027 Cricket World Cup, their chances of clinching the title would be strengthened by the presence of senior players, and the fan‑favourite Rohit is expected to play a key role in the squad.

The Hitman would be in focus when India face England in the series decider ODI match on Sunday, July 19, at Lord's.
