Desperate to host India, Bangladesh reportedly postpone planned tour to clear September window for Men in Blue

Bangladesh have taken a key decision in regards to Team India as the BCB looks to improve cricketing relations with the BCCI after a series of controversy earlier this year.

Bangladesh are reportedly planning an important step to improve cricketing ties with India after the IPL 2026 season is over. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is looking to host India later this year after the tour was cancelled last year over security concerns.

In order to host India, Bangladesh have postponed their planned tour of Ireland in September 2026 as the board is trying to organise a home series against India in the same window. A BCB official confirmed to Cricbuzz that they informed Cricket Ireland that Bangladesh would not be able to travel during that period and requested another date.

Cricket Ireland had recently announced their schedule for the year and has reportedly informed BCB that it would be difficult to find another window in 2026. As a result, both boards have decided to postpone the series and try to arrange it at a later date as Bangladesh want to play India this year.

India expected to play Bangladesh in August 2026

India were originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh in 2025, but the series was postponed due to political unrest in the country. Now, the Indian team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28 for a limited-overs series. The tour is set to include three One-Day Internationals and as many T20 Internationals.

"When the India series was moved from last year to this September, we asked them (Cricket Ireland) if they could accommodate us at another time in 2026, but they said they were unable to do so. So the tour has been postponed," a BCB official told Cricbuzz on Saturday.

However, the India tour in September is still subject to approval from the Indian government because of recent diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Bangladesh had refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup earlier this year and were replaced with another team.

BCB's decision to skip the World Cup came after the ICC refused to move their matches out of India. Bangladesh wanted their matches to be held elsewhere due to security concerns, but the real reason was the BCCI's decision to exclude Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026 after political pressure.

With a new government elected in Bangladesh earlier this year, the BCB is trying to reset its relations with the BCCI. Meanwhile, the ODI series against India will also be an important one for the Bangladesh team as they aim to secure a direct qualification in the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
