Abhishek Sharma's reign as ICC's No. 1-ranked T20 batter ended after his Indian compatriot Ishan Kishan replaced him to take the top spot after the updated rankings were released on Wednesday.

The rise of Ishan Kishan has been steady and impressive, fueled by a dominant domestic run in which he led Jharkhand to a historic SMAT title victory. The southpaw wicketkeeper-batter carried the momentum into the T20 World Cup, scoring 317 runs and finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Kishan becomes new No. 1-ranked ICC T20 batter

Kishan knocked off Abhishek to become the new No. 1-ranked T20 batter in the ICC rankings, ending the flamboyant opener's reign for almost 12 years. The wicketkeeper-batter secured 867 rating points, while Abhishek drops down to second with 869 points.

Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan is third in the ICC T20 batting rankings list with 848 points. Suryakumar Yadav went down a spot and is currently eighth, while India T20 vice-captain Tilak Varma remains static in the sixth spot with 747 points.

Kishan joined the elite club, including former India captains Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, as one of the four male cricketers who have held the prestigious spot.

Chakaravarthy, Bumrah drop down in ICC T20 rankings

In the T20 bowlers' rankings, India's Varun Chakravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah dropped a slot each to be third and sixth, respectively. Afghanistan's Rashid Khan maintained his top spot in the list.

In terms of the men's Test batting rankings, Australian opener Travis Head leapt to the top spot, while England batter Joe Root slipped to third.

India Test captain Shubman Gill is sixth in the list after gaining a spot, while Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped to ninth. Outside of the top ten, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is the best-ranked Indian cricketer at 13th, while Bumrah is the top-ranked among Test bowlers.
