India created history by defeating New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final, becoming the first team to win back-to-back titles and lift it at home. Nine Indian players, including Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, joined the elite list of cricketers with two T20 World Cup wins. Check out full list.

The T20 World Cup 2026 ended spectacularly as India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Suryakumar Yadav and his young team produced a dominant all-round performance, posting 255/5 and then bowling out New Zealand for 159 to successfully defend their title at home.
This victory made India the first team in history to win the T20 World Cup back-to-back and also the first to lift it on home soil. Gautam Gambhir became the first person in the world to win the trophy both as a player and as a coach.
India's history makers
With this win, nine Indian players joined an elite group of cricketers who have won the T20 World Cup twice. Captain Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel had also been part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team.
These players have now joined former India captain Rohit Sharma and eight West Indian players in this exclusive club.
Before this, only nine players had won two T20 World Cups: Rohit Sharma (2007 and 2024) from India, and eight West Indies stars from their 2012 and 2016 triumphs. Daren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Dwayne Bravo, Samuel Badree, Andre Russell, and Denesh Ramdin were part of both the 2012 and 2016 winning teams.
This victory also gave India their third T20 World Cup title overall, making them the most successful team in the format. Suryakumar Yadav became the third Indian captain, after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, to lead India to T20 World Cup glory.
