In another dowry death case, the autopsy of Deepika Nagar shows grievous external and internal injuries on her body. A 24-year-old Deepika from Greater Noida’s Ecotech-III area suffered a chilling extent of injuries on her body, the autopsy report revealed.
The examination found severe bruising on her face, thigh, forearm, chest, abdomen and arms, along with deep wounds on her knee and injuries around the waist.
Deepika died after jumping from the third floor of their house in Jalpura village of Greater Noida, her in-laws claimed; however, her family alleged that Deepika was tortured and pushed from the terrace to make her death look like a suicide.
She was married to Ritick Tanwar, a resident of Jalpura village, who was arrested on Monday (May 18) along with his father, Manoj, after a complaint by Deepika's family. Her parents spent nearly a crore on her lavish wedding, but the dowry harassment and torture continued.
We take a look.
Deepika's chilling autopsy report
The autopsy report was conducted by a two-member team and videographed for transparency. The external injuries details are as follows:
- The examination found a large swelling on the right side of her face measuring around 12 cm x 9 cm.
- Another swelling of about 9 cm x 6 cm on her left elbow joint.
- An injury measuring roughly 8 cm x 5 cm on the left forearm.
- It also recorded a bluish mark spanning nearly 38 cm x 14 cm on the right thigh.
- A bone-deep wound measuring around 4 cm x 1.5 cm on the left knee.
- A smaller wound of about 1.5 cm x 1 cm near her lower back and abdomen.
- Additionally, doctors found a circular bluish bruise measuring approximately 25 cm x 22 cm above the right iliac crest — the topmost bone of the pelvis.
- Along with circular injury marks around the right hand.
- Bleeding from the left ear, and deep pressure and abrasion marks on the left side of the chest and belly.
The internal injuries are as follows:
- Doctors discovered a haematoma (clot) on the left side of Deepika's brain, denoting severe head trauma.
- Her spleen was ruptured, with severe internal bleeding found across several areas.
- The left kidney was in a pale condition.
- Deepika's chambers of the heart were found empty.
- Bleeding was found in various parts of the body.
The medical conclusion of the report noted, as quoted by NDTV, "Multiple serious external and internal injuries were found on the body. In particular, the hematoma in the brain and rupture of the spleen indicate severe trauma, including severe bleeding in multiple parts of the body."
“It is difficult to determine whether these occurred before death or after the fall. The cuts, internal bleeding and organ damage can all result from a fall from height," Pankaj Kumar Hans, a private medical practitioner in the city, said, according to Times of India (TOI); however, he did not draw any conclusion.
1 crore first, then... Family alleges dowry harassment
Around 18 months ago, Deepika was married. According to her family, they spent nearly Rs 1 crore on the wedding. But her in-laws reportedly continued to demand more dowry. Deepika's in-laws sought cash and a Fortuner SUV, the family claimed.
Her father, Sanjay Nagar, alleged that her in-laws demanded an extra Rs 45-50 lakh in cash as dowry despite the 1 crore amount. The 24-year-old woman was tortured on a regular basis over dowry, and she was asked to bring Jewellery every time she visited her parents.
"I gave them a Scorpio N and cash on various occasions, but they killed her. I want justice," Deepika's father said.
Deepika died on the night of Sunday (May 17). According to reports, hours before that, her father, along with some relatives, visited his daughter's in-laws' house to resolve the matter after she called him, crying and describing the assault over dowry demands.
Around 12.30 am, he received a call from her in-laws saying that Deepika had been injured after allegedly falling from the roof of the house, and asked the family to come reach the hospital.
"When I reached the hospital, I found my daughter lying dead," Sanjay recounted the moment.
According to police sources, it was still unclear whether the injuries were inflicted before her death or resulted from the impact of hitting an iron grille or net during the fall.
"What is this talk of suicide?"
Dismissing the claim that Deepika died by suicide, her father accused her in-laws of murder.
“They killed her. After beating her, they threw her down from the roof. They did it together. What is this talk of suicide? This is murder. She he has been stabbed in the stomach with a knife or a screwdriver,” the father alleged.
“Those beasts killed her last night. They killed her out of greed for dowry. For the past 10 months, she had been constantly telling us about her plight, but we kept trying to reason with her. Yet, it made absolutely no difference to them whatsoever."
"There are visible marks of injury on her body. After killing her, they threw her down from the roof,” he claimed.
A senior police officer asserted that detailed questioning of the arrested accused was underway. “We have also formed four teams to nab the absconding five accused," he added.
