Malayalam actor Santhosh Nair dies in road accident, industry mourns loss

Santhosh Nair passed away on Tuesday morning following a road accident in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district, police confirmed. The actor was travelling with his wife when their car collided with a lorry at Enathu around 6.30 am, leaving both injured.

Succumbed to injuries after crash

According to police, Nair sustained critical injuries after his chest hit the steering wheel during the impact, as per a report in PTI. He later succumbed to his injuries. His wife suffered rib fractures in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment.

A career spanning over four decades

Nair began his journey in cinema with the 1982 film Ithu Njangalude Katha and went on to feature in over 100 films. Over the years, he built a diverse body of work, portraying a range of characters- from lead roles to antagonists and supporting parts. His latest release, Mohiniyattam, is currently running in theatres.

Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi pay tribute

The news of his demise has left the Malayalam film industry in shock, with several members expressing grief. Mohanlal, in a Facebook post, recalled his long association with Nair, describing him as both a close friend and like family.

"Santhosh was my junior in college. From those days onward, he was not just a good friend but like a brother to me. We have worked together in many films," he wrote.

Union Minister and actor Suresh Gopi also expressed his condolences, saying Nair was like a brother and that his passing has left an irreplaceable void in his life.
