Amitabh Bachchan has revealed that he was recently hospitalised, underwent surgery and spent time in the intensive care unit (ICU), describing the period after returning home as "the most difficult phase" of his life. The 83-year-old actor shared an emotional reflection on the challenges of recovery, saying that leaving the hospital does not necessarily mean the hardest part is over.

'The homecoming period is the most difficult phase'

In his latest blog entry, Bachchan wrote about the physical and emotional toll that follows hospitalisation. He wrote, "...in Hospital in a surgery and in the ICU, under the care of proficient Doctors and medical Staff... a discharge... and a homecoming... this homecoming period is the most difficult phase... physically, psychologically and practically."

He went on to compare recovery with confronting an unexpected defeat, writing, "...you are a revered Champion and one day a defeat stares at you... this is the most difficult phase of your life."

The actor added that while some people fight through adversity and emerge stronger, others learn to accept their changed circumstances. "...some brave it... some succumb... they that strive and be brave ever remain Champions... they that do not, get reconciled and live, exist in the past glory... a choice each makes individually... nothing wrong by either... be well, be happy," his blog post read.

A cryptic message fuels concern

Shortly after publishing the blog, Bachchan shared another enigmatic post on X (formerly Twitter), writing, "The game has ended! But the work is still going on."

The message immediately sparked concern among fans, many of whom flooded social media with wishes for his speedy recovery. Neither Bachchan nor his family has revealed further details about his medical condition.

A history of overcoming health battles

Over the years, Bachchan has spoken candidly about several serious health challenges.

The actor survived a near-fatal accident on the sets of Coolie in 1982, which required emergency surgery and months of hospitalisation. He has also revealed that he lives with only around 25 per cent functioning of his liver after contracting hepatitis B following contaminated blood transfusions during his treatment. Despite these setbacks, he has remained one of Indian cinema's busiest actors.

Even as concern grows over his latest health update, Bachchan continues to stay professionally active. He was last seen in Kalki 2898 AD and is expected to return with the next season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, alongside work on upcoming film projects.
