'Cocktail 2': Novelist Shobhaa De says there should be no part three, 'There were just 10 people, 3 walked out'

Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Rashmika Mandanna's Cocktail 2 follows the same template that made the first film work in 2012- A lot of style, sea, and sexiness dripping from every frame of the exceptionally extravagant enterprise. But the film also reeks of hollowness with barely any scene registering.

Shobhaa De slams the sequel

De, one of the most brutal voices when it comes to critique, slammed the film saying there should be no part three and also revealed three people walked away out of the ten that came to see it.

The first film starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty. It was a frothy menage a trois where relationships turned complicated after love took over friendship. The sensational and stunning soundtrack by Pritam camouflaged many of the narrative’s problems 14 years ago.

I think Cocktail 2 just happened at the right time. I was craving for it. I wanted to go into that really young, urban, fun space of a rom-com.

"Yes, it's a sequel, but it's more of a vibe sequel, I feel. The story is completely different, the characters are completely different, and their backstories are completely different. So everything is different, except for the vibe of Cocktail. And of course, Maddock Films and Homi Adajania. So that remains as is," she told Zoom last year.
