The new Renault Duster has earned a 5-star BNCAP safety rating with strong adult and child protection scores

The all-new Renault Duster has scored a robust 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) crash test. The French brand’s SUV achieved 30.49 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 for child occupant protection. Furthermore, these ratings apply to all variants of the Duster.

The crash test ratings for child occupant protection involved rearward-facing child dummies based on the physical attributes of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old. For both age groups, the Duster was able to score a maximum of 24 points, which included frontal and side protection dynamic scores respectively.

The child restraint system of the Duster was able to accrue a score of 12 points, the highest in the segment. The overall score was impacted by the vehicle assessment score of 9 out of 13, and hence the overall child occupant protection rating dropped to 45 out of 49.

Adult Occupant Protection Results

The frontal offset deformable test is of profound importance, as a majority of collisions lead to front-end impacts. The Duster was able to attain a score of 14.49 out of 16 points in BNCAP’s frontal deformable barrier test. The Duster was able to achieve a good rating for protection offered to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, and thighs. The protection level dropped to adequate for the driver’s chest and tibias.

The protection for the front passenger’s chest and lower leg regions was rated as good overall. In the side movable deformable barrier test, the Renault Duster achieved top ratings by scoring a maximum of 16.00. The side pole impact test saw the Duster achieve an “OK” rating.

Safety Features on Offer

Several basic safety features are available across all six variants of the new-gen Renault Duster. These include six airbags, an electronic stability program, hill hold control, hill descent control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, three-point seatbelts for all occupants, and ISOFIX anchorages. The top-spec variant of the Duster also gets advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as adaptive cruise control, collision detection with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot detection.

The Renault Duster competes with models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Tata Sierra.
