Mercedes reveals 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door with 600 kW fast charging — Here’s what’s new
The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe redefines AMG performance with groundbreaking axial-flux motor technology, ultra-fast charging, and supercar-level electric power

Mercedes has taken the wraps off the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, its flagship four-door electric performance coupe that combines an advanced 800-volt architecture, cutting-edge axial-flux motor technology, immense power figures, and a futuristic, tech-laden cabin design.
The new iteration of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is unlike any AMG GT 4-Door Coupe that has ever made it to market. In its GT 63 guise, the saloon features three axial-flux motors — two at the rear and one at the front — producing a combined peak output of 1,169 hp. Mercedes claims the 0–100 kph sprint takes just 2.1 seconds with launch control engaged. A smaller, more accessible 800 hp / 1,800 Nm version with the AMG GT 55 badge is also available.
The saloon supports 600 kW ultra-fast charging, which can add up to 460 km of range in just 10 minutes. The 106 kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of 700 km on the WLTP cycle, thanks to its advanced 800-volt architecture. To help AMG enthusiasts feel at home, the car also produces a synthetic rumble through the speakers.
The GT 4 uses an all-new battery system developed by Mercedes, featuring newly designed battery cells with direct cooling for each individual cell. These cells are slimmer and smaller than before, allowing Mercedes to pack them more densely for a lower centre of gravity and improved performance.
The GT 4 takes inspiration from the Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept revealed earlier, but its design also blends cues from the road-going Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric. Mercedes says the new Panamericana grille has been inspired by a catfish. The rear section has also been freshly designed, featuring circular tail lamps on either side.
The New Axial-Flux Motor
Mercedes has established that the drivetrain technology used in this vehicle is both cutting-edge and entirely new. No mass-market production vehicle has employed this technology before. These motors allow manufacturers to keep the drivetrain compact while maintaining incredible power density, all within a slim package that fits alongside a conventional motor setup.
The new motors have been developed with assistance from YASA, the British specialist acquired by Mercedes in 2021. The rear axle and motors sit within a shared housing, improving packaging efficiency and structural integration.
The battery architecture of the new GT Coupe has been built around an 800V system. Mercedes has employed an ingenious direct-cooling arrangement that allows the car to deliver and absorb charge at rates previously unimaginable for a road car. It can achieve a peak DC charging rate of 600 kW and add 460 km of range in just 10 minutes.
The battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent state of charge in only 11 minutes.
New All-Wheel-Drive Setup
The conventional anti-roll bars from previous-generation models have been replaced with the AMG Active Ride Control system. All four corners now feature semi-active, hydraulically interconnected dampers that link compression and rebound rates, regulated through a central pump and valve system. Rear-wheel steering further helps the vehicle attain up to six degrees of steering angle in either direction.
AMG GT 4 Interior
The interior is dominated by a bold arrangement of glass display units, including a 10.2-inch instrument cluster and a 14-inch multimedia monitor angled toward the driver. An array of physical rotary dials within easy reach on the centre console operates what Mercedes calls the AMG Race Control Unit, allowing the driver to fine-tune response, agility, and traction across nine stages.
The presence of active aerodynamics, 600 kW charging capability, and Active Ride Control makes the new entrant a technological marvel — but the bigger question remains: is it still a true AMG GT-spec vehicle?
